what I believe

Today is the 7th day of the 6th month of 2016 and the 159th day of the year with only 200 shopping days left until Christmas. It is also:
- Daniel Boone Day – on this day in 1769, the intrepid explorer realized that he had actually made it through the Appalachians using what became to be known as the Wilderness Road
- June Bug Day
- National Chocolate Ice Cream Day
- Trial Technology Day
- VCR Day – be kind, rewind!
- World Pet Memorial Day
In 421 Emperor Theodosius II married Aelia Eudocia, who converted to Christianity and came to be called Saint Eudocia for her work blending the Hellenistic culture with the fledgling religion. In 1494 Spain and Portugal signed the Treaty of Tordesillas dividing the New World between them. In 1892 Benjamin Harrison was the first US President to attend a baseball game. In 1929 the Vatican became an independent city when the Lateran Treaty was ratified. In 1939 King George VI arrived at Niagara Falls NY, from Canada on the first visit to the US by a reigning British monarch. .In 1990 Universal Studios opened in Orlando, Florida.
I have been pretty vocal across social media that I am unhappy with the way this presidential election is shaping up here in the US. I don’t like or trust Hillary Clinton. I think Donald Trump is a reality show star, not presidential material. I am sick and tired of placating those who trumpet “moral values” and religion and the need to protect our country against just about everyone. And when it comes to faith one need only look into relatively recent history to read about the Holocaust and the Spanish Inquisition – those horrific acts don’t define Christianity, so why would we let ISIS define Muslims?
There is one polarizing issue that just flummoxes me – why do science and religion have to be considered mutually exclusive? I get that folks have different definitions of “climate change” and what caused it. I get that some folks don’t believe that mankind has walked on the moon or in the possibility of life on other planets. I get that the theory of evolution is a theory and that some folks feel that creationism should be taught as a valid theory. I don’t agree with these points of view, but I get that others feel their beliefs are more valid than mine. What I don’t get is when I am told that it has to be all one way or another and those who try to bridge the gap vilified for placating.
