On this day in 44 BC Pharaoh Cleopatra VII of Egypt declared her son co-ruler as Ptolemy XV Caesarion and Cicero launched the first of his 14 Philippics (oratorical attacks) on Mark Antony. In 1752 Great Britain adopted the Gregorian calendar [nearly two centuries later than most of Western Europe]. In 1789 the US Department of the Treasury was founded.
